What is Diabetes? When glucose rises in blood above normal, consequently the presence of glucose in urine appears which should not normally contain glucose. As you know, we have managed to create breast cancer awareness together. We crowned our project with awareness and our international award. This year, we will raise awareness about a disease that we hear about but we don't know much about it. We are ready to raise our awareness of DIABETES this term. Dear Rotaract family, are you with us? Let's create awareness beyond dreams and let's all say Start Now, Not Tomorrow! Although there are several types of diabetes in which both genetic and environmental factors play a role, the most important ones are: Type 1 Diabetes, Type 2 Diabetes and Pre-Diabetes. -Type 1 Diabetes: Type 1 diabetes is caused by a lack or absence of insulin production in the pancreas. The use of insulin is mandatory in the treatment of Type 1 diabetes, which usually starts in childhood. 5-10% of people with diabetes have this type of diabetes. -Type 2 Diabetes: People with type 2 diabetes produce insulin, but the produced insulin cannot be used effectively in target tissues. Type 2 diabetes is more common than type 1 diabetes; 90% of people with diabetes have type 2 diabetes. It usually occurs in people over the age of 35 - 40. Most of the patients are overweight. -Pre-diabetes: If a person's blood sugar level is higher than normal but not high enough to diagnose diabetes, then the person is defined as pre-diabetic.
